Many shooting federations have canceled all competitions due to the Covid-19 situation and shooting ranges are temporarily closed almost everywhere. What can you do despite the threatening total lack of necessary training facilities to still be able to work on your shooting skills? Of course, dry-fire training cannot and should not replace live firing, which is definitely more fun with recoil, gun smoke, bang and muzzle flash, and also requires more skill in terms of shooting control. But especially in these days, when the government recommends limiting social contacts and many shooting ranges are not accessible anyway, dry-fire training can be a welcome alternative.

Working with laser training systems is certainly nothing new by today’s standards, however Laser Ammo is on the cutting edge with their technology. the SureStrike offered better construction and an added level of safety with the threaded pipe extensions and safety cap. We also liked that the kit was stored in a case and not easily misplaced. We liked the included target and the cartridges’ ability to adapt to other pistol and rifle calibers as well as shotgun gauges. ______________________________________________ The LaserPET helps you record hits and times, and this makes the training more valuable because you can chart your progress. In our opinion, this target is well suited to drawing and firing on a target. Most public ranges do not allow this type of training, and for good reason — it is dangerous for bystanders to be swept with a loaded pistol. This allows you to train in ways you cannot at a public range. If you want to get a general indication of your progress, we’d pair the LaserPET with a laser cartridge.

My testing of the SureStrike Cartridge and LaserPET barely scratches the surface of the training product line Laser Ammo has to offer. Their devices are well suited for hunting rifles, shotguns or modern sporting rifles as well. The ability to purchase additional targets only enriches your training capabilities, not to mention the potential to create smokeless ranges with their software and accompanying sensors. If you’re serious about pistol training, I would recommend starting your search for indoor training tools with Laser Ammo.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has modernized its target training facilities with the installation of a computerized shooting simulator at the main office on North Fraser Street, Georgetown. Officials have completed the testing of a “Laser Ammo” training facility that allows law officers to refine their shooting skills and experience many shoot-don’t shoot scenarios.

it really helped me with acquiring my target from a start position. Lots of time can be lost in this area, So i would practice with my pistol at a start plate like is used in rim-fire two gun, then see how fast i can sight in and hit my first target. i could feel myself getting a little better every day at it, and i found the system very useful because of it. i really appreciate the opportunity i had to try it out, and i'm sure it will be helping more and more in the future.

The system has the ability to exercise an incredibly wide range of shooting skills for the target, competitive and self-defense shooter. The ability to add targets allows shooters to easily create their own indoor range to specifically meet their needs.

think Laser Ammo has an interesting and unique idea for laser training. A simple interactive target system and a laser cartridge can take you a long way. I’ve taught a few concealed carry classes and used this system with students. It’s especially handy for new shooters. We can work on trigger control, sight picture, and follow through with a system that gives direct feedback to the user. It’s also a recoil and explosion-free environment. I can talk and teach easily and observe a student from a multitude of angles not possible on the range. The i-MTTS is a great system for the everyday shooter who’s looking to up their dry fire game.

Laser Ammo Training Technologies makes a system called the LaserPET. In a nut shell it’s a Personal Electronic Target that provides immediate feedback with sound. If you want to step it up a notch the system has a built-in shot timer that will track how long it takes to get a single shot on target and then how many consecutive shot you can get on target in a specific time period. Pretty damn cool if you ask me.

I’ve gotten some trigger using both my CZ P09 and my Magnum Research MR9. DA/SA handguns are a lot easier to use with the Surestrike laser cartridge. I’ve used the First, Third and Fourth modes. The fourth is by far my favorite. The faster you start shooting the faster the targets change. Once you think you got the hang of it, you’d pull the trigger on a red target and it’s game over.

The Interactive Multi Target Training System lets you simulate different training drills with the most advanced electronic target in the market. Train with your own firearm or with any recoil enable gun (like Airsoft) with available red or IR lasers.

One of the unique advantages of the Training Pistol is the versatile laser options. As the laser is communicating with the gun in a unique patent pending optic way, the shooter can choose between IR or visible laser, can request a custom pulse length to his or her needs, replace battery when needed and more. The shooter can even use the same laser (with a different cap) in their own firearms, or airsoft! And of course, use it with all Laser Ammo line of targets, Simulators and shooting software.

With a few hundred dollars of your agency's or your own money, you can put together a basic system which will allow you train, even if it's 40 below outside. With only a PC, camera, video projector and screen or large screen TV, you can set up a range just about anywhere. The most unique feature about the ATLP is its accidental discharge sensor. When turned on, the gun will pick up the errant finger in the trigger guard and warn you with a loud beep and pulsing yellow light. The alarm can be adjusted for over sensitivity. I found the alarm went off between .5 – .8 seconds after inserting my finger in the trigger guard. If I start applying pressure on the trigger though, the alarm won’t go off. For the shooter concerned about weak trigger discipline and the new student the feature is excellent. I think for a new shooter it would be a priceless tool to drive home the concept of keeping your finger off the trigger early on.

Everybody enjoyed their time with the i-MTTS. We all agreed it was good practice, as well as much cheaper and less time consuming than a trip to the range to shoot live ammo. Of course, nothing can replace the recoil, muzzle blast and satisfaction of shooting with live ammunition. However, the i-MTTS is an excellent indoor training system and it provides valuable practice at reasonable cost with maximum convenience.

Airguns are touted as a great way to keep your shooting skills sharp during the winter months or off-season if you are a firearms shooter. Part of the reason for this is because manufacturers strive for as much realism as possible, making for airguns that closely mimic their firearm counterparts. This makes for an easy transition to consistent training at low cost. Even if you don’t own firearms you may still desire a training tool that does not even require you to burn CO2 and allows you to practice with your airguns right in your living room. Laser Ammo’s i-M.T.T.S. and their Spider accessory for use with either BB/Pellet airguns or Airsofts is the answer.

I loved the ATLP as far as a training tool. I used it a couple times in my concealed carry classes and found it was a great tool. I was able to use it while explaining aspects and fundamentals of point shooting. This really helped the students visually what I was explaining, by having a visible laser to show where rounds would be striking a target. The ATLP seems to be built very solidly and although it is made of plastic or a polymer, it does not feel cheap at all. It has a good weight and is a good representation of a typical M&P firearm. I liked especially that they decided to weight the magazine to a true filled weight so magazine drills could be more realistic. And obviously the trigger guard alert is a wonderful training tool that is really driving an important safety rule home for those who may just need to break that very bad habit. As far as the i-MTTS, I found that the laser strikes were all recoded and didn’t have any issues with the laser not being picked up or recognized, and I used it in a fully lit room with not only overhead lights but sunlight as well. The different modes and targets were great because it allows you to vary your training and keep it interesting. I have seen a lot of laser training tools out there, and I really liked this one because it didn’t need anything extra. You simply set up the targets, which literally takes seconds, and you are in business. No using computers, phones syncing anything at all. Just really simplistic operation made it very nice. I especially liked the ability to actually run some drills against my wife and before we knew it we had been shooting for about 30 minutes. Doesn’t seem like much, but if we can have fun while training properly and productively, we are more likely to train and train for longer periods of time.

These 2 products featured at shotshow were the best training systems I have ever seen. Coolfire is a drop in co2 barrel the makes the slide go back giving recoil and shoots a laser. The targets I'm shooting are by laserammo. And that is just the tip of the iceberg for laser ammo. They have a smokless shooting range for the home that is affordable. Wait for the next video! At the 2016 SHOT Show I made it a point to stop by the Laser Products booth to see if they had gone into production on a prototype target they displayed last year. The new target series, the Interactive Multi Target Training System (i.M.T.T.S.), is finally ready for release and is even better than the early version I got a sneak peek at last year. The i.M.M.T.S is set of interactive targets used with the company’s laser products. Each unit consists of a plastic base with electronics and a slot for insertion of scaled down reflective targets. The target choices include 1/4 scale IPSC targets, bullseye targets, and silhouette targets.

Interestingly enough I found out about Laser Ammo while I was at the CoolFire booth. One of the guys from Laser Ammo had staged number of their small, laser-reactive targets (Interactive Multi Training Electronic Target System) to be used with the CO2 operated laser trainers (which I might add made for a super fun and addictive session). It was interesting enough that I was forced to visit their booth to see what else they had. Like a number of other exhibitors that were hawking laser training systems, Laser Ammo had a wide booth and a projector and sounds of simulated steel being shot. They had a much wider variety of items than the other vendors I had visited to that point...

I have played around with a couple of similar products in the past. Fully converted guns, dummy guns and that bulky setup the Army used to use. This is the best, most refined product of this nature I have seen or used. The lack of boom and recoil is only an issue for practicing follow-up shots or rapid fire. But to train for that first shot, knowing your trigger, your hold, and the rest of your fundamentals is high priority. I would absolutely recommend it for anybody who is serious about dry fire training, teaching newbie classes, or introducing others to firearms.

The Laser-Ammo module turns your actual self or home defense gun into a laser gun, basically. Normal dry fire, you don't know where your bullet will hit. Now, the laser module is not exactly going to project a red dot exactly where your live ammo point of impact will be. However, at self or home defense distances, it will be close enough as to make no difference. I use the laser module and target in the picture above at distances of up to 20 yards in my home, without any real problems with the point of impact for the laser, or bullets making a difference. I don't even adjust my sights. And that little square box on the laser sensitive target is pretty small.

The sight’s optical fibers and lens create an illuminated dot 2mm in diameter at the end of an aluminum tube. The tube is mounted at the rear of the weapon and parallel to the barrel. Their Sure Strike Laser Training System takes dry fire training to a different level. It uses the Sure Strike laser cartridge, a device that actually is placed in the chamber of the firearm. The switch on this product is actuated by the firing pin of the gun. I combined my experimentation of this system with their T0380A Glock Reset Trigger Kit. Compatible with Glock Gen 3 products, the Reset Trigger allows the shooter to squeeze the trigger repeatedly without having to manipulate the slide. This simple mechanism is a drop in for the firing mechanism, including the trigger with trigger bar, trigger spring, ejector, connector, and trigger mechanism housing. This sight provides seriously faster target acquisition than the Glock factory sight, is simple to use, and once you find how far down you need to hold on your front sight (depending on the distance between you and your target), shooting is a BREEZE. I found the LaserPET target easy to use and helpful in my dry-fire drills with my laser equipped pistol. I especially like the Shot Timer/Fast Draw mode. I practiced for a few minutes a day for several days and achieved a noticeable improvement in my time on target from the draw.

Laser simulators provide a viable alternative to live fire. No, I am not being paid by them, but I do like the product. Do shop around, the kits can be had for cheaper on the webs, mine was from Ebay. I got the Laser ammo LE kit about a month ago. The LE kit had an appeal to me because for the price I can use it in all my pistols, 9mm, 40, and 45 in the kit. It also comes with the 223 adapters so it can be used in Ar, Galil, Mini 14, and any other 223 weapons. I also separately purchased the 12 gauge adapter.

The Laser Ammo dry fire system works well. I think that it would be especially useful for those who are just learning the basic fundamentals of shooting, as it gives the shooter instant feedback on where the shots are going, when doing different things (too much trigger finger, grip, stance, and flinch). The cartridges are accurate enough that you can place the Laser PET target quite a ways away from you (I put it at the far end of my bedroom, and stood all the way down the hall) and really work on accuracy. Getting too far away from the target though may cause the laser to impact high depending on the distance that your pistol is sighted in at. You can also adjust the size of the impact zone on the Laser PET by sliding in one of the smaller targets. The smallest is a ½” circle which can be a challenge to hit consistently even at across the room distances.

Great product and definitely a top recommended product. As Christmas is approaching, this is a perfect gift for any shooter.

I never knew that I could think of my guns in a similar way to how I think of my own children. But, wait—before anyone jumps to the conclusion that I’ve completely lost it and somehow LOVE my firearms as much as I love my kids, that’s not at all what I am trying to say.

All in all, the SureStrike is the best system I’ve found for dry-fire laser practice to date.

Many laser-training systems previously tested were of limited utility and I wasn’t convinced of the bang for the bucks. How would you like to vastly improve your shooting skills without firing a single shot? I’ve been shooting for decades, and I can never recall a period when I felt that ammo was considered cheap. When you dry fire, you get a nice, red hit on the target, showing where you were aiming at the time. it works for fast shooting - to work on target acquisition - or even simple target practice.

This experiment reminds me of something Grandpa used to say to us kids, “If you don’t know how to shoot, there’s no use buying ammunition ’cause you’re just gonna waste it.” A laser training device can help you learn to shoot, learn the basics of trigger pull and sight alignment and even help develop self-defense skills without wasting a single round of ammo.
